Sponsored by industry leader Pioneer DJ, the Canadian DJ (CDJ) Show is the country's largest conference and trade show for professional DJs and executives in the electronic music industry. As the CDJ Show's content strategist and media director, and a professional DJ myself with 10+ years' experience, I was able to bring a new modern direction to the existing brand and further the impact of the show.

Refresh

My primary task was to lead a brand refresh. The original branding was already very well recognized in the industry, so I applied only an incremental update that modernized the look-and-feel of the CDJ Show while also maintaining its gravitas. I was then responsible for applying that refresh to all the existing show assets, recreating everything from web content to social media assets, press releases, and email marketing. It was also my responsibility to create all printed documents for the show, including exhibitor guides, posters, show guides, and passes.

Media & Video
Production

During the week of the show, my efforts transitioned to media, where I was tasked with managing a film crew to document the show for social media and promotion for future dates. I coordinated and directed interviews with international guests, celebrities, and panellists, product demos with industry-leading brands, capturing keynotes and other events throughout the day. When the show was said-and-done, it was my job to edit all of the highlights for social media, YouTube, and email campaigns and create the official recap video for guests both past and future.
"A thoroughly enjoyable experience, the CDJ Show provided me with an opportunity to be part of an iconic Canadian conference and represented a lot of professional firsts for me. I had the chance to further my understanding of print-based design, manage others in a time-sensitive environment, be the frontline contact for distinguished guests, and better understand working with corporate partners in an industry that I am exceptionally passionate about. "We couldn't have done it without him, from the early stages of developing an updated look and feel for the show, to the on-site video shoot production, to putting the finishing touches on the post-show assets."

"Jake's contribution to the success of the CDJ Show was absolutely invaluable. We couldn't have done it without him, from the early stages of developing an updated look and feel for the show, to the on-site video shoot production, to putting the finishing touches on the post-show assets.

His efforts were vital in transitioning to the refreshed look while maintaining the show's identity. Considering the age, professional and stylistic range of the show's audience, getting the updating image just right couldn't be taken for granted, and we were fortunate to have Jake on board to make sure it got done right.

The show's rapidly expanding roster of international guests, along with a needy and "frugal" group of vendors makes pulling the print, video, and digital assets together on time and on a budget a humbling challenge – involving many late nights and unforgiving deadlines. But getting everything done right and on time with Jake's help was very rewarding."
